Aside from finding a cheap flight, booking a hostel is also one of the best ways to travel on a budget. And to find a hostel, you often go to Google and type in hostel near by me or hostels near me now. The results of your hostel near by me search will give you a list of several hostels nearby that is affordable but the question is if it is the hostel that you need. This hostel near me post will not only guide you in booking a hostel but will also help you search hostels that are affordable yet comfortable for you.
What is a hostel?
It is a short term for a youth hostel. What hostel means is cheap accommodations to young travellers, specifically backpackers, transient tourists, solo travellers, students, digital nomads, and gap year travellers.
Although staying in a hostel is geared toward the young generation, it does not discriminate older travellers. A stay in a hostel is more of an accommodation preference.
Booking a hostel means renting a bunk bed in a dormitory with shared or private bathrooms. Depending on the hostel, dormitory rooms can be mixed or single-sex, and private rooms may be available. Guests in a hostel enjoy a shared lounge, kitchen and laundry area, and sometimes, a garden, a rooftop, and a pool.
How does staying in a hostel work?
Staying in a hostel means you’ll get to meet new people and socialize with them. It is common for all hostels to have a social area where you can hang out with other travellers, play board games, read a book or watch some movies.
Some hostels level up their social area with incredible garden lounge or roof terraces with amazing views. Most hostel hosts organize fun events for their guests such as boodle fights, movie nights, beer pong, and yoga and board games sessions.
Staying in a hostel also means filling your Instagram feeds with nice photos as some hostels design their facilities to be Instagrammable and artsy. Some hostels have large bathrooms with freebies like toiletries, hairdryers, and full-length mirrors that are very convenient.
Aside from cheap accommodations, staying in a hostel can lower your food cost as you can shop in a local market and cook it in the common kitchen instead of eating in restaurants. Staying in a hostel also means you’ll be able to talk to a local and get tips to DIY your tours to save money.
You might get excited to stay in a hostel after hearing the good stuff but keep in mind that hostels may not be for everyone. Staying in a hostel dormitory means you may share it with other people you don’t know and don’t have the same schedule as you.
While lockers are available for you, you may experience occasional turning on of lights and other people talking while you are sleeping. Unless you are a big group that can occupy a 6 or 8-bed dormitory then you are in control of the room.
Also, note that not all hostel bathrooms are as fancy as the others. It can be a small toilet without division from its shower so always check the hostel’s facility description and reviews.
Are hostels safe?
Staying in a hostel is generally safe. Most hostels are staffed 24 hours and some have security cameras installed. But just like any other accommodations including hotels, you should always be mindful of your belongings and be careful in choosing a hostel based on the safety of its location.
How do you choose a hostel?
When you search for hostels near by me in Google, you don’t always have the choose the cheapest hostel in the list. Hostels are already budget accommodations so aside from the cost, you should also consider if the hostels fit your needs.
Are you travelling solo, a couple, a big group of friends or family? If you are travelling solo, is the hostel safe for solo travellers? Do they have female-only dorms? Are lockers provided?
For more than one traveller, do they have private rooms? Family rooms? Does the hostel allow kids? This is important because I see adult-only hostels.
Here are other essential factors to consider when choosing the best hostel. Is the hotel located near the bus stops or train stations? Is it nearby interesting spots, shops, and restaurants? How far is it from the airport? Do they offer breakfast?
