Travelling is one of the best ways to escape from the stress of our daily lives and spending it with your loved one keeps the romance alive. This quality time should not be taken for granted that’s why we listed the best places to visit in the USA for couples to help you plan your romantic getaway. Whether you are planning a trip for your anniversary, a holiday, or any weekend, there are a lot of romantic getaways in the United States for you and your partner!
1. Sonoma County, California
Contributed by Allison of California Crossroads
If you’re looking for one of the romantic getaways in the United States to take with your significant other that is low-key, skip Napa Valley and head over to its next-door neighbor, Sonoma County!
Sonoma County is everything you want in a couple’s trip. It’s got amazing wines and so many charming tasting rooms to enjoy. Sonoma is known in particular for its light, fruity, but structured Pinot Noirs and creamy, tasty Chardonnays, but they also grow a lot of other interesting varietals from around the world such as Grenache, Zinfindel (similar to Primitivo), and Gewurtztraminer!
Beyond wine tasting, there are so many other cool romantic activities for couples to enjoy. Head to the Sonoma Coast to visit the cute town of Jenner and its two beaches bifurcated by the end of the Russian River, which empties into the Pacific Ocean at Jenner. Goat Head Rock Beach and Jenner Beach are both stunning.
Go for delicious seafood at Bodega Bay, and then head inland and go for a redwood walk in one of the many redwood forests in Sonoma, such as Armstrong Woods. Enjoy a relaxing couple’s spa day at the OSMOSIS Japanese-inspired spa (the cedar enzyme bath is so reinvigorating!) and have a delicious meal at one of the cool local restaurants in the Barlow area in Sebastopol. Click to book a Private Sailing Tour of Bodega Bay.
2. Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Contributed by Dani of Daily With Dani
Located at the heart of Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg is one of the best places to visit in the USA for couples. With the booming tourism, you and your significant other will never run out of things to do!
It is best to visit Gatlinburg during Christmas time. The weather is gorgeous and there are so many winter activities you can do. At Ober Gatlinburg, you can go ice skating, skiing, snow tubing and even ride ice bumper cars during the winter!
If you want to try some authentic Tennessee moonshine, you can visit Sugarlands Distillery. Their moonshine tastings are rated the #1 thing to do in Gatlinburg, making it the perfect adult activity to do with your partner.
If you’re looking to avoid tourist trap restaurants, definitely pay a visit to Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin. Most people stop to visit the Pancake Pantry in Downtown Gatlinburg, but they end up waiting in a 2+ hour line for breakfast. Flapjack’s serves pancakes that are just as good without the wait! Stop in for a romantic breakfast with your partner.
For the coziest accommodations, I would recommend renting a cabin. You and your partner will be able to cook meals and enjoy the views all while being close to downtown. Most cabins come with game rooms too, which is perfect for a couples pool or foosball tournament!
Lastly, you and your partner have to visit CLIMB Works Smoky Mountains. This will be the most adventurous and educational zip-line tour you’ll ever take. You’ll start the tour with an exciting ATV ride up the mountain, which is perfect if you and your partner are thrill seekers.

If you have only time for 1 park, then Animal Kingdom is by far the best of the 4 main parks. Have fun exploring the Kilimanjaro Safari at the Animal Kingdom, as you get to experience all sorts of animals from different continents of the world. And within the same park, try out Pandora, a theme park inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar, featuring floating mountains, alien wildlife, and bioluminescent plants.

New Orleans is one of the best places to visit in the USA for couples. It’s a charming city with a very particular culture, architecture, and history. It’s fun to visit and there are more things to do than you can ever cover on a week-long trip.
Couples should find accommodation in one of the downtown hotels that are walking distance to all the great spots. Start with a tour of the French Quarter, both in the daylight as well after dark.
It’s lively, colorful, and busy. Find a bar you like, order a glass of hurricane cocktail, and enjoy a jazz performance. Local foods to try are beignets, crayfish, alligator, gumbo, and po’boys.
Amazing places to explore in the city are the historic cemeteries, Garden District, Jackson Square, French Market, and various museums about the voodoo, Mardi Gras, and local history. Click to book a French Quarter, Cemetery, and Voodoo Tour.
For extra fun, take a night walking tour of the city. A romantic dinner cruise on a historic steamboat down the Mississippi River is a great couple activity, too. Click to book an Evening Jazz Cruise.
After you walk the city, you absolutely must venture out to the countryside. A visit to one or two historic plantations are obligatory as well as taking a swamp tour. If you want to see lots of alligators, plan your trip between March and June and then in September and October. During winter, the reptiles hibernate hidden and during summer, the humidity and swamp insects will make you crazy. Click to book a 2-Hour Swamp Tour.
18. Orcas Island, Washington
Contributed by Kay of The Awkward Traveller
Orcas Island, which compromises part of the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish, is one of the romantic getaways in the United States for couples, especially couples that love escaping into nature. Off the coast of Washington state, most of the island is reserved for state parks and campgrounds, and the other for agriculture, and it is easy to lose yourself in the beauty of the forests and trails.
If you aren’t a fan of camping, book a stay at the Outlook Inn, a boutique hotel in the heart of the small downtown area, Eastsound. The hotel grounds are so beautiful that dozens of couples hold weddings and photoshoots in the garden, and is walking distance to the best bakery on the island, Brown Bear Bakery. Click the VIEW HOTEL button below to book your stay!
The downtown area is also home to artisans shops, souvenir stands, and a locally sourced Farmer’s Market on weekends. However, one of the best things to do on Orcas Island is to go whale watching, as the name of the island suggests.
Whale season is from April to October, and the best tour guides are with Outer Island Excursions. Most of their captains have an educational background in sustainable eco-tourism and marine biology and can tell you more about Orcas and their relationship with the island.
19. Las Vegas, Nevada
Contributed by Mayuri of ToSomePlaceNew
Las Vegas is the perfect answer to an amazing romantic getaway in USA. Vegas is more than a gambling resort, and the best part is there are so many things that you can do for free in the city, whilst enjoying a great vacation.
The Las Vegas Strip is like a joyride and amusement park for adults. Enjoy time with your loved one, walk hand in hand at the Strip, take in views of the larger than life buildings. This romantic activity is absolutely free. Our favorite is the musical fountains in front of Hotel Bellagio. Stop by to admire the wonderful water show (yes for free!)
Speaking of hotels, one of the romantic things to do in Las Vegas for couples is to book a luxurious resort with a pool, and a spa package to get pampered in style. Being a holiday destination, Las Vegas has plenty of amazing hotel properties to choose from, including the Venetian (and go on a gondola ride at the hotel).
Add an awesome concert, Ice Bar, or fine Italian dining to the mix, and your sweetheart will thank you for a wonderful trip!
Prefer something unique? Opt for a hot air balloon ride right outside of Las Vegas, and enjoy views of the city from all above (maybe use this opportunity to propose or celebrate an occasion with your loved one!). Click to book a hot air balloon ride in Las Vegas!
The best time to visit Las Vegas is in the autumn or winter months!

Couples always grasp hands a little tighter after listening to the numerous tales of murder and mystery that have fascinated visitors for years. Click to book a Ghosts & Gravestones Trolley Tour.
Insider tip: Considering a Valentine’s getaway? It’s not uncommon to find flowers blooming by mid-February. Mid-March is the peak blooming season, but it’s also the most expensive time of year to visit.
21. Charleston, South Carolina
Contributed by Erin of Savannah First Timer
Like many Southern cities, Charleston is known for being a fantastic spot in one of the romantic getaways in the United States. It’s been named the Most Romantic City in America numerous times for good reason!
Charleston is filled with delicious places to eat, incredible architecture, and romantic alleyways that make the perfect spot to steal a kiss from your significant other. Here are a few things to add to your Charleston Bucket List.
Learn the rich history of the city by first heading down to Historic Charleston City Market. It’s filled with goods from Lowcountry vendors, so it makes a great spot to pick up a souvenir. The sweetgrass baskets made by local Gullah artists are always a popular choice. Once you’ve finished there, head out to explore the fancier shops lining King Street.
Next, pick a cobblestone street to stroll down and check out some of Charleston’s beautiful mansions. Many of the city’s homes have a very distinct “Charleston” appearance; they’re often tall, skinny, and feature long verandas to take advantage of the sea breeze.
Homes are frequently painted in pastel tones, and it’s common to spot elaborate window boxes and peek into beautiful secret gardens. Rainbow Row is always a popular spot to stop for a photo op. Click to book a walking tour.
As the day winds down, you’ll want to check out a sunset along The Battery or at one of the city’s many rooftop bars before heading out to a romantic dinner. Charleston is a total foodies town! Husk is always a popular option, or you can shuck your own fresh oysters at Bowens Island Restaurant or Leon’s Oyster Shop (a highly instagrammable spot!).
Finally, end your evening with fresh baked cookies and a cocktail at babas on cannon before heading back to your hotel. Before you leave town, be sure to stop by the magnificent 400-year-old Angel Oak! It’s one of the most beautiful trees in the Lowcountry.
And that’s it! Travelling with your loved one should be on top of your list. I hope you and your partner will get the most of the best vacation spots for couples in the US!
